Redwood Agency is redesigning its web site. During this transition our quick query functionality is not available. Howerever we are still accepting quick queries by email. Please provide the information requested below in an email to query@redwoodagency.com and it will receive the same handling a query would have received if submitted here.

Guidelines for Submitting a Quick Query

Redwood has designed the Quick Query form to provide prospective authors a concise format in which to submit an idea for consideration. Its format is intended to ensure that authors provide the information needed for evaluation and to facilitate quicker review by Redwood.  Once received by our agency, online queries are generally reviewed and responded to within a week (mailed queries take longer, see below).  It is important that all submissions—queries and proposals—include an email address, even if the query is faxed or mailed in.

Please allow approximately 30 days for a response. We generally do not return print Query letters to authors, however, if you would like your materials returned please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  If we do not receive an SASE, we will recycle the material.   NO FICTION PLEASE.

Overview: This should be 20-75 words briefly describing the Work.  In an Overview it is important to concisely address the subject, audience, level, and what is unique or saleable and marketable about the idea.  (Mock Example:  “A concise history of the ballpoint pen, from its invention in 1920 to the present and specifically addressing how the ballpoint pen revolutionized the work place.  Written with a clear, yet humorous, tone and intended for young adults and older or anyone interested in cultural history and inventions.  No such history exists today and Mr. Bic (the son of the inventor) has agreed to open to us his archives of documents and photos about this fascinating instrument.”

Market:  Include any demographic or description information about who you envision as the primary audience for your idea.

Competition:  Include a list of works that may be similar to your idea. List their titles, author, price, publisher, publication year and any other information you think is relative.

Table of Contents: Rough version is okay and if you can include a very brief description of the focus of the chapters it would be useful.

Illustrations:   What kind will be needed?  Who will provide them?  How many?

Estimated Length:  How many words and/or double-spaced pages do you estimate the Work will be?

words      pages

Completion Notes: Estimate the time it will take to prepare a complete Proposal including sample chapters and illustrations.

About the Author:  Include a brief biography of yourself and any co-authors or key contributors to the Work.  Specifically, your education, relevant experience, previous written works (published and unpublished), and why you are qualified to write the Work.

General Expectations and Comments: You may want to provide some insight on some of the following subjects.

a.       Why do you want to do this project?

b.      Who do you think would be a good publisher?

c.       What are your expectations for the project?

d.      Anything else you think is important for us to consider.
